Haasteiden kuntavaalit
Helsingin vihreillä on vihdoin mahdollisuus tehdä omaa – eikä vaan sinivihreää – politiikkaansa. Menestyjät voittivat vaaleissa, eikä vasemmiston setämalli pure. Perussuomalaisten menestys on haaste kaikille puolueille ja tähän asti tehdylle politiikalle. Paikallisvaaleissa ratkotaan kuitenkin kuntien omia ongelmia – usein myös tulevia kuntaliitoksia, myös Helsingin metropolialueella.
On kummallista katsoa Suomen kuntavaaleja Chicagosta. Mikä valinnanvara loistavia ehdokkaita, ja monipuoluejärjestelmä, jossa äänestäjät itse laittavat ehdokkaat järjestykseen! Täällä talouskriisivaaleissa republikaanit tarjoavat putkimiestä ja demokraatit töitä. Helppo valinta. Siis jos voisi äänestää. Tosin Fox News kertoo kuinka esimerkiksi ruotsalaiset(!) ovat rekisteröityneet äänestämään vaaleissa täällä...
Mitä opimme näistä vaaleista? Kokoomuksen dynaamiikka toimii yhä, eikä kukaan syytä heitä hallituksen kömmähdyksistä, toisin kuin Keskustaa (ties kuinka paljon ääniä olisi Kemijärvellä sun muualla olisi menetetty ilman VR:n rökitystä). Urpilainen pysäytti demareiden alamäen – paitsi etenkin pääkaupunkiseudulla, mutta haasteet ovat vasta edessä.
Kiinnostavia ovat ne kolme seuraavaa: vaalivoittajat perussuomalaiset ja vihreät, ja häviäjät... vasemmisto.
Helsingissä vihreillä on kerrankin mahdollisuus luoda ero Kokoomukseen. Toiseksi suurimman puolueen asema ei enää vaadi peesaamista. Yhteistyötä voi tehdä myös muihin suuntiin, jotta neljän vuoden sisään joukkoliikennekysymykset, tietullit ja vaikkapa pyörätiet etenevät.
Perussuomalaiset ovat puolestaan haaste muille puolueille. Mitkä ovat ne asiat jotka vetivät äänestäjiä perusuomalaisille, mitä muut eivät antaneet? Perussuomalaisten suuri äänimäärä ja yleensäkin melko korkea osanotto vaaleissa kertovat siitä, että ihmisiä kyllä kiinnostaa politiikka, mutta millainen politiikka.
Toinen asia on tietenkin se, mitä ulkomaalaisvastaisuus ja jopa avoin nationalismi (esimerkiksi Helsingin valtuustoon nousseen Halla-Ahon tapauksessa) tarkoittavat käytännön politiikassa ja onko todellakin tämä tärkein osa perussuomalaisten agendaa?
Entä vasemmiston vaalitappio? Onko tosiaan kuten Paavo Arhinmäki ehdotti, että ihmiset eivät vieläkään ole valmiita äänestämään Vasemmistoliittoa? Osin varmaan niinkin. Ideologian haamut häiritsevät. Toisaalta Vasemmistoliitto yhä mielletään vanhojen setien puolueeksi. Vaikka Paavo osaltaan tuo johtajistoon nuorekkuuta ja kerää nuorten ja syrjäytyneidenkin helsinkiläisten ääniä, on hänkin omalla tavallaan setämäinen. Toisaalta myös vasemmisto kerää uusia äänestäjiä joka vaaleissa.
Kun vuosi sitten tulin Suomeen, minulle neuvottiin, että vasemmiston ja oikeiston leimat eivät täällä toimi. Jopa punavihreys voi kuulostaa huonolta leimalta. (Kumma, minä ja monet vihreät ja punaiset kaverini tunnemme itsemme kovinkin punavihreiksi.) Alan uskoa tähän.
On turha alkaa valittamaan että oikeisto on vallassa ellei keskity selittämään että mitä ne tekevät väärin ja miten vasemmisto toimisi. Itseasiassa olisi varmaan tehokkainta keskittyä juuri siihen mikä on vialla ja mitä pitäisi tehdä. Siinä perussuomalaiset ovat pärjänneet paremmin kuin moni muu puolue.
Toisaalta nämä ovat paikallisvaalit. Päätöksiä tehdään sen perusteella mitä kunnanvaltuustot ovat tehneet tähän asti ja mitä ne tekisivät seuraavina neljänä vuotena. Lapsuuteni kotikunnassa MUUT voittivat – Joroisten sitoutumattomat ovat vuosia pyrkineet kyseenalaistamaan Keskustan hegemoniaa. Käytännössä sitoutumattomat katsovat kohti Varkautta pohjoisrajan takana olevaa teollisuuskaupunkia ja keskustalaiset etelän maaseutukuntia Juvaa ja Rantasalmea. Kuntaliitosten aikakaudella on paikallisilla vaalivoittajilla on väliä. Helsingin metropolialuehanke saattaa edistyä kuntavaalien jälkeen – ainakin Vantaan ja Helsingin osalta.
Menestyjäimago voittaa vaaleissa. Suomessa myönteisintä ja dynaamisinta viestiä toivat kokoomuslaiset, vihreät ja perussuomalaiset – jossain määrin myös Urpilaisen SDP. Samoin Yhdysvalloissa demokraatit luovat menestyjän kuvaa. Palin pystyi luomaan sitä hetken aikaa, mutta sitten selvisi, ettei hän ainakaan presidenttinä menestyisi. Lopputulokseen on kuitenkin usein vaikutusta rahalla ja median huomiolla, niin epäreilua kuin se onkin ne luovat menestyjiä.
